“ Life is uncharted territory. It reveals its story one moment at a time.” ~ Leo F. Buscaglia
I was watching a video on interesting things to do along a stretch of road called the Humming Bird Highway in Belize. The name caught my attention but what I came to discover as I watched it - we all have interesting things right in our own "backyard." Wonderful discoveries waiting for us around each corner...
It seems to be a common thought that you need to go far away to see and discover interesting things. I think part of that is because we think if we don't change our scenery there really isn't anything of interest to see. I mentioned this to people I know in different parts of the world and the conversations delved into how we all felt we were waking up and seeing our towns or communities with new eyes. A colleague in New York said he went to the Empire State Building for the first time in the 18 years he has lived there and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the people he met. I went to a producers round table for the small television station in my community and met several people who where just starting interesting video projects about people and places on Martha's Vineyard I had never heard about, even thought I have been a part of the vineyard community all of my life.
Look around your community and open your eyes... What do you see? Who can you stop and have a conversation with? What new interesting things will you discover for the first time in your "backyard?" Now is the perfect time for you to see things with fresh eyes and have the "secrets" reveled to you at this moment.
