There is nothing quite like the spark of possibility in the smile of a child. No matter what may be going on around them - their smile, and the light in their eyes inspires joy. On a trip in 2006 to South Africa, Lindsay Tarquinio, from Atlanta Georgia, went to do volunteer work and found her inspired mission. She and her husband Gavin, a well known football player, turned their ideas and passion towards setting children around the world free from poverty.
They named their organization Luo, a Greek word which means to "set free." They use art work created by children to fund programs to help children be set free from poverty. Lindsay and Gavin opened the Ithemba day center and safe house in Jefries Bay, South Africa and travel from the states with 200 pounds of artist canvas when they go on each trip. The children create their paintings that are then brought back to the US and sold to raise funds for the Luo organization.
We all have a bright spark within us, waiting to be set free. The same spark of possibility I mentioned you see in the smiling face of a child is there within your own smiling face. You too, can embrace the Greek philosophy of LUO and set free your bright spark.
