Right left right left…
I did this for 3.1 miles.
The city meet was last Thursday and I won. The whole meet is a blur so it’s hard to say what happened and how I did it. So I’ll post about how it felt.
I came through the finish line with a personal best of 23:18. Not sure of how I did, I asked my dad how I did. I had won. My mom came and hugged me and my grandparents were there, too. I was really, really tired! I went to my team tent and got a Gatorade. I chugged it down and my friends were finishing. We all talked about the race and our likes and dislikes. I then helped my friend ice her soar ankle. I watched my other team members run and cheered them on.
My coach handed me my ribbon. I was really proud of myself. Then my fifth grade science teacher came over and said congratulations to me. It felt good knowing that everyone else was my cheerleader. Somebody asked me after the race what it felt like to be first and my response was "painful."
The race was so much fun. Not just because I won but because it was around a lake. My coaches were all very happy and my team won the meet for JV girls by a landslide. Knowing I had been a big help made me feel good.

Alice, congratulations on winning your race but I think you are a winner in all that you do. The last sentence of your blog post was so wise and insightful: "Part of being a Spirited Woman is leading. The path ahead may not always be clear, but we have to be a guide for everyone else."
I look forward to seeing you lead your generation to greatness. You are amazing!
To your fabulous success,
Dawn
