Well said! I agree. There is a quote I like "Bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die." Forgiveness only needs to release you from dwelling on the actions of another. Because not forgiving is more damaging to you than the other person.

Thank you for writing so eloquently about the power of forgiveness. The challenge often is choosing behavior that matches the feeling of forgiveness. In the work I've done with couples, I've discovered that real forgiveness is possible only after the feelings have been expressed. If you forgive in your heart, but are unwilling to speak your truth, your experience, your pain, without blame and judgment, progress in the relationship is slowed. Combining forgiveness with the willingness to speak your truth gives you a very powerful place to stand. Thank you Maureen for this insightful post.
