"It's not easy being green." That's what Kermit used to sing about, and for many people wanting to be more "green," more "eco-friendly," in their life - but not really knowing how - is something I am sure many people want to know.
There are big changes and shifts going on in our world, not temporary disturbances, but a releasing of the old and an opening for us to shift dramatically as a planet and as energy beings. That means a new mindset of prosperity instead of lack consciousness, a new mindset in choosing what we really want instead of just piling things in our lives because we want to keep up with someone else's ideal for us...
This week in my international radio program Reading the Waters of Change we had a wonderful exploration and conversation about creating a new rhythm of greening in your life. Listeners asked questions so they could make shifts in their own ways of being green. You can listen to the archives online or download the Mp3.
The show inspired me to write a list of 7 tips for bringing a new rhythm of greening into your life with ease.
1. Go out and purchase a pretty mug or snazzy warming thermos mug and use that for drinking your favorite coffee or specialty tea as you go through your day. Your beverage will have more flavor and you will be leaving so many additions out of the landfill.
2. Un-plug your telephone charger when you are not recharging your phone. There is a great commercial that gets kids to think of this and make the shift, as they love to burn up the cell phone lines.
3. Buy local products whenever you can. This is a wonderful way to support your local community especially with the economic changes and it lessens the impact of each thing you buy because you are making a choice that does not have a large travel and energy cost to it from being trucked in from far away.
4. Picture what you want to eat before you open the fridge - Most moms have been telling us that for eons - long before being green was ever a glimmer in some ones mindset. When you open the door 30 percent of the cooled air escapes - change your rhythm and set the intention before opening the door.
5. Defrost foods before cooking, just think of what would be a yummy diner the night before and take the frozen ingredients out of the freezer and set on a plate in the fridge. When you are ready to spin your culinary magic everything will be ready for you to begin.
6. Eat in season - By eating the fruits and vegetables that are locally fresh you are enjoying healthier and tastier choices. You are also supporting your local farmers and being into with the rhythm of your growing and people community instead of letting the big agribusinesses dictate what you purchase.
7. Use freecycling for unwanted household items - this is a fast growing idea and its creating freecycling communities all over the globe. You list the items you no longer have a use for and make them available for free to someone who does and you can often find just what you are looking for. The people I have talked to who are active members say they always find the most amazing things.
Being green is a mindset, not about purchasing the latest and some times very expensive eco-friendly products. Taking small steps that shift how you move through your day and make the choices in life is the wave of a new rhythm of greening sweeping the globe.
