While I was not able to attend a recent gathering in Chicago in person, I enjoyed being there via modern technology when Monica Potter sat down with a group of female bloggers to promote her new show on TNT - Trust Me.
I was lucky enough to preview the first 2 episodes and she is so great you will love her. She plays Sarah Krajicek-Hunter an award-winning copywriter who is divorced and a little insecure due to the all male team she works with. Like any good TV show, this is written to the extreme but it does give a solid glimpse into the crazy world of advertising.
When I was in advertising at Paramount Domestic TV I cannot tell you the number of times I was asked to step into a room and give my opinion on a campaign. Don't be impressed, I was an assistant! My "spirited" female boss (of course) believed that the ad people were so far from "real people" that their ads were trying to attract that she would gather a group of us to give our 2 cents. I would cringe every time because if I said I liked the campaign and didn't then I would be lying. On the other hand, when I would look at the poor ad people who had been working on something all night and know they would have to pull another "all-nighter" my heart would break. So I would just speak the truth if it was bad and sometimes (if I was lucky) she would slam her hand down on the conference room table and declare, "See! I told you it sucked!" I didn't get a lot of assistant gifts during the holidays....
I digress, you may know Monica from her movie appearances in Along Came A Spider, Con Air, Patch Adams and TV's Boston Legal but she is nothing like her characters (that makes a good actress, huh?). In real life, she is down to earth, the mom of three (two teenage boys and a three-year-old girl) and she likes reading the tabloids while walking on the treadmill. At the luncheon, she even held some strangers babies! You don't get celebrities doing that everyday.
So check her out in Trust Me, Monday nights on TNT where she stars along with Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanaugh. http://www.tnt.tv/series/trustme/
