The Spirited Woman Singing Contest received 15 audio renditions of the Spirited Woman Song. No video submissions. We thought we'd get a lot more! The submissions we got were really terrific and the women truly talented.

The judges and I narrowed it down to our top four favorites. We voted on audio/voice clarity, melody Interpretation, spiritedness, connection to the lyrics, and creativity.

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO VOTE ON YOUR FAVORITE.

You'll have until midnight February 13, 2007 Pacific Standard Time to vote. You can vote by calling this number 641-985-5999, then enter 21460# or by e-mailing Nancy Mills at: NancyMills@TheSpiritedWoman.com. YOU CAN ONLY VOTE FOR ONE SINGER. But, be sure and tell your friends to vote. The top three winners will be announced on Valentine's Day!!

Lisa Murray says, "It was a tough decision as I think all of the women were SPIRITED WOMEN as I admire their courage and vibrancy."

Jamie Shea wrote, "It was inspiring to see the creativity and energy contestants put out to create a song out of these lyrics. It's always interesting to see how many different and interesting ways there are to express the same meanings. Lots of quality among the contestants. Thanks for the opportunity to be involved."

SPIRITED WOMAN SINGING CONTEST

American Idol watch out! Is this cool or what?

SPIRITED WOMAN is sponsoring a singing contest for spirited women everywhere. Enter your audio and/or video version of THE SPIRITED WOMAN SONG, and you'll have a chance to WIN a $100 first prize, the Spirited Woman Singing Award, and much more.

The goal of the contest is to show your "spirit through song." In other words, to show your enthusiasm, character, creativity, and talent to the world. To HAVE FUN and to EXPRESS YOUR SPIRITED WOMAN SELF. You do not have to be a professional singer to enter - all levels and ages are welcome!!

Spirited Woman's fearless founder, Nancy Mills, has written the lyrics for THE SPIRITED WOMAN SONG- but the song doesn't have a melody. Your job is to sing your interpretation of Nancy's lyrics in your most spirited woman way - using a melody that you've created and if you so desire, feel free to add instruments, such as drums, horns, piano, trumpets, whatever. You can also add a chorus if you want to, and you're welcome to sing the song solo or with friends - doesn't matter.

How to become a contestant:
By entering an audio or video version (or both) of The Spirited Woman Song. Once you've entered you can put the Spirited Woman Singing Badge on your website TO TELL THE WORLD you're a contestant. And be sure to tell your friends about the contest - so they can enter, too!

(Remember: We're judging more on your song interpretation than on the fact that you might be jumping out of an airplane while you're singing it!)

Here are the contest rules (we suggest you print out this entire page):

1. The contest officially begins on January 16, 2007 and song submissions will be accepted through midnight February 7, 2007, Pacific Standard Time. The winners will be announced on Valentine's Day, February 14 at 1 pm PST. What a sweet gift!

2. You are invited to perform individually, in a group, have band members or back-up performers, but the main performer MUST BE a woman.

3. In addition to your own melody, adding instrumentation and a chorus is fine, but ALL "THE SPIRITED WOMAN SONG" lyrics MUST be included in your singing interpretation.

4. You can submit your version of The Spirited Woman Song in either an audio or video format or in BOTH audio and video. You can enter once in each format - and yes, you can make a different version for each format. EACH SUBMISSION MUST BE NO LONGER THAN 2 MINUTES, or it will be disqualified.

5. For audio submissions, you can submit in two ways.
A. Way one - just pick up the phone, call this number 641-985-5999, then enter 21460#, follow the phone instructions, and sing away! What could be easier!
B. Or way two - send a MP3, with your name either in the intro to the song or on the file label to Nancy's e-mail: Nancymills@thespiritedwoman.com and put MP3 SINGING CONTEST in the subject line. Within the e-mail body, you MUST INCLUDE, your name, phone number, AND the names of anybody else singing. DO NOT submit in other audio ways - you will be disqualified.

6. For video submissions upload your video either to your website, YouTube.com or any of the other video sharing sites such as Yahoo, AOL, MySpace - DO NOT send by e-mail.
A. In order for your video to qualify for the contest - YOU MUST write in the video comments/description "Video entree for Spirited Woman Singing Contest, sponsored by http://www.thespiritedwoman.com." For those of you who know how to edit, we've also created a JPEG (click here) that you can place in the front of your video.
B. Once your video is uploaded with the REQUIRED description, send an e-mail to: Nancymills@thespiritedwoman.com and put VIDEO SINGING CONTEST in the subject line. In the e-mail, you MUST INCLUDE, your name, phone number, the link to your video, and the names of others in the video. NO videos will be accepted through e-mail, just the links to the video.

Judging the Contest:

American Idol anyone? The winners will be selected by popular vote! Yeah! Nancy, and her team of three Spirited Woman judges - Seattle Singer/Songwriter Jamie Shea (member of The Walrus and The Holmes-Shea Band); filmmaker Lisa Murray, who's video "Free Hugs in Hollywood" has been viewed over 500,000 times; and LA comedienne Roz Browne (whose won numerous contests herself) - will pick the top 10 contestants in each category (audio and video), then submit them to all the spirited women on the Spirited Woman Newsletter list (that's 3,000 plus women) and in the Spirited Woman's MySpace community (that's over 600) to vote.

WHAT THE WINNERS WIN!
The winning amount is per submission in the audio and video category.
1. 1st Place $100, 2nd Place $50, 3rd Place $25
2. Each winner will receive a "Spirited Woman Singing" Award in a JPEG version to put on her website.
3. The winners' audios and videos and a brief profile on each of the winners will be featured on the Spirited Woman Website and My Space page, and will be announced in the popular SPIRITED WOMAN Newsletter. The videos will also be featured on thespiritedwoman YouTube page.
4. Nancy Mills will send a press release to major media announcing the winners.

By entering the Spirited Woman Singing contest, you give Spirited Woman the right to use your singing submission for promotional purposes, and the right to sell your audio and/or video through our channels, including but not limited to the Spirited Woman Website (http://www.thespiritedwoman.com) and MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/thespiritedwoman).

By entering the contest, you give Spirited Woman permission to subscribe you (that is if you aren't already subcribed) to the free monthly Spirited Woman Newsletter. And please note, we don't sell our list - even to goddesses!
