Discovering the power of the internet and the impact of online relationships crossed DeeAnna’s path a dozen years ago when she logged on as an “e-patient” to search respiratory symptoms her doctors couldn’t diagnose. She discovered support in a forum dedicated to people who had lung disorders and found information that was lifesaving. This was her first introduction to peer support online and it was then that she realized the internet was a powerhouse for help and support.
As a psychotherapist she imagined the possibilities of the internet by reaching clients in new and innovative ways. After practicing online therapy for nearly 10 years, she decided to co-found the Online Therapy Institute with her friend and colleague, Kate Anthony who resides “across the pond.”
DeeAnna and Kate set out as two very impassioned women to create an organization that would serve as a learning portal and social network for helping professionals around the world. To that end, the Institute has launched several new initiatives including he recent launch of the Online Coach Institute.
The Institutes offer cutting edge training to coaches and mental health practitioners with the aim that helping professionals can utilize technology beneficially and ethically with clients. With the amazing response for more information on emerging topics related to technology, TILT Magazine ~ Therapeutic Innovations in Light of Technology was launched, offering a bi-monthly resource at no charge to an international audience.
The Institutes strive to disseminate information about research, education and training. Topics and issues of interest extend to internet and cybersex addictions, gaming, virtual worlds including avatar therapy, social networking, SMS texting and online peer support.
While most of her time is focused on educating other professionals, she continues to maintain a small private practice in Highlands, NJ and she works primarily with individuals who are struggling with a negative impact on their lives as a result of the internet and gaming.
DeeAnna is a Licensed Professional. She is also a Distance Credentialed Counselor and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.
