Sisters who Believe. Live. Thrive. Together.
Yes, that is the motto, the lifestyle, and the deeply empowered way of three sisters - determined to make a difference when they founded Spirited Sisters Inc. and created the Original Healing Threads clothing brand - their own line of dignified, sophisticated and comfortable recovery wear designed to be worn during and after medical treatments.
The three sisters - Peg, Patty and Claire - founded Healing Threads in part as a labor of love, a reaction to a personal story, and a mission of hope. In 2002, Peg, the oldest sister was diagnosed with Stage 3 Melanoma. Just six months (to the day) later, in February of 2003, her adored younger sister Claire was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer and given 6-12 months to live.
"We were all incensed when we came to realize that in order to subject
ourselves to all that the modern Western medical world has at its
disposal to combat cancer, we had to wear the dreaded hospital gown!,"
says Peg Feoderoff, the enthusiastic president of the company.
So, what's two cancer-diagnosed spirited women baby boomers to do? Start a company with their other sister, and say "no, no, no" to the dreaded hospital gown and it's humility and coldness.
As Peg says, "When
illness such as cancer strikes, it affects the mind, the body, and the
spirit. It is our feeling that the body is dealt with by the medical
community, but that little attention is paid to the mind and spirit. In
our small way, through designing and manufacturing our garments with
their unusual functionality and fashion, we are empowering women to
include their minds and spirits as they recover and heal. "
You got that right Peg. And we at Spirited Woman, your spirited sister in mind, body, and spirit commend you for helping patients of any type - and reaching out not only to women, but to men and adolescents as well. Your clothing line is not only beautiful, but a gift of dignity.
Peg has been cancer free since her surgery in 2002, and she is grateful for every day. Unfortunately, despite 35 months of chemotherapy, holistic remedies and prayer, Claire at age 44, succumbed to the disease on January 31, 2006. She is missed by many, many people, especially her sisters and her daughter, Lilly, for whom one of the gowns is named.
We at Spirited Woman urge you with all our hearts to support this company and buy their healing clothes. You could make a difference in someone's ability to heal.
