is a big deal. Huge. Surreal. All the hard work has paid off and I

Yes, our community is growing in leaps and bounds, and all of the creative out-of-the-box marketing is working.
The
first two Nancy's Inner Circles - the program where I mentor women
privately and in group - on creative out of the box marketing ideas -
are proving to be very successful. One of our members will be selling
her product on QVC next month, another is now a hospital spokeswoman -
on billboards, TV, and more - and another is lining up large new
sponsors for media tour. Just a taste of what's going on.
I will

GAIL GOODWIN
Gail Goodwin is a woman on the move! Founder of InspireMeToday.com,
Gail is getting set to start the Inspire Me Hug tour - where she and
her husband will fly in a small prop plane, visit 50 cities around the
world, giving 2,000 hugs per visit, literally wrapping the world with
100,000 hugs. Along the way, she also plans to raise $1 million dollars
for charity.
Gail is a tremendous entrepreneur with a great story to tell. Enjoy her interview. She's very inspiring!
Q. Gail, tell us a little bit about your background.
A.
To
tell you a bit about me, I was born and raised in PA, the fourth of
five kids. I was raised in a blue-collar family with little money but
lots of love. I'm still very close to my siblings and my parents. We're
all blessed with great health and happiness. My dad was a building
contractor and showed us through example that we can build anything
including a beautiful life.
I
spent most of my adult life in various facets of real estate, from
management to investment to development. I've always been an
entrepreneur and greatly enjoy building a business.
I’ve
always had a life-long love of learning, especially topics of a
spiritual, inspirational or meaningful nature. From the time I was a
small child I’ve always wanted to know the “why” behind everything. I
know that my insatiable appetite for information drove my parents
crazy. I still ask “why” everyday and believe that the quality of your
life will be determined by the quality of your questions.
Q. What motivated you to create InspireMeToday.com?
A.
Inspiration
has always been a very special part of my life. For many years I’ve
listened to upbeat music on my iPod when I worked out aerobically at
the gym. On the mornings that I did weight training, I would listen to
books on tape - inspirational messages from people like Jack Canfield,
Wayne Dyer or one of many others. Those morning inspirational messages
shifted my whole attitude, increased my creativity, productivity and
overall attitude throughout the day. It didn’t take long to realize
that the quality of my day was directly tied to the quality of my
morning inspiration. Just like we feed our bodies in the morning, I
believe that it is necessary to feed our soul too.
Once
I realized the impact quality inspiration was having on my life, I
searched for new information continually. My personal need to be
inspired became a part-time job. I didn’t want to listen to the same
information or even the same person over and over again, so I expanded
my search to include a wide variety of amazing luminaries. Friends and
family started borrowing my library and I watched as their lives
improved as a result of this inspiration. From that experience and my
passionate desire to share inspiration with others, I bought the name
InspireMeToday.com in 2004.
Q. You wanted to launch
InspireMeToday sooner than you did - but you put your dream on hold to
help your daughter Carly - what happened?
A. It’s funny how
sometimes God seems to have different plans for us or our timing just
isn't right. My daughter, Carly, has always been incredibly talented
musically, from being offered a role in Les Miserable on Broadway at 7
years old, to acting in commercials for Hallmark, Kodak and others. She
was even on the Wonder Years as a child. However, her great talent,
love and passion was singing. She has the crystal clear voice of an
angel. I’ve always promised her that when the time was right, if it was
something she wanted, I would move mountains to help her achieve her
dream of being a top recording artist. As she graduated from college in
2004, the time was right. She moved to Nashville and asked for my help.
So rather than launching InspireMeToday.com in 2004 when I booked the name, I put it on hold to help my daughter.
Q. What was the inspiration for "Baby Come Back Home?"
A.
In the fall of 2004 I woke from a dream in which Carly, by then a
rising Nashville recording artist, was performing on stage, singing a
song I’d never heard before, repeating it over and over. I scribbled
the song in my journal while half asleep at 2am. In the morning I found
the almost illegible song, called my daughter, and shared it with her.
She was less than interested in hearing it, but in spite of her
constant reminder of, “Mom, you’re not a songwriter… I live in
Nashville and hang out with songwriters… keep your day job”, I flew to
Nashville and met with Carly and #1 hit songwriter, Gerald Smith. In 15
minutes our song, Baby Come Back Home, was complete.
Within
days the song was recorded by Carly and with the help of Mark Victor
Hansen and Alex Mandossian, was released as an audio postcard on the
Internet. The song, sung from the perspective of a soldier’s wife to
her husband in Iraq, honors the unrecognized, often unnoticed,
sacrifices of a soldier’s wife. Baby Come Back Home became an
“anthem” embraced by military families around the world. Within a month
there were more than half a million web hits on Carly's site.
Invitations started pouring in from troops and their families
We
spent the next two years visiting many bases throughout the US, three
trips to Guantanamo Bay and enjoyed a 29-day tour of Iraq and the
Persian Gulf. At Al Q'aim, a remote base in northwestern Iraq, a young
Marine named Jesse asked me for a "mom hug". He explained that he’d
just turned 19 and that it had been 9 months and 4 days since he’d been
touched. He proceeded to explain that his job required him to live in a
ditch - alone for 30-40 days at a time. He was one of more than 800
Marines who guard this stretch of desert, coming back to the base for a
few days every month or so. Jesse apologized and told me that he hadn’t
had a shower in 37 days but asked if he could still have his hug. I
pulled him close and gave him the biggest, warmest "Mom hug" that I
could. We were both moved to tears.
We talked for a bit and I
asked Jesse how he survives a month at a time, living in a ditch with
no interaction with other people. I explained that I didn’t think I
could live in my house for 30-40 days with no interaction, let alone in
a ditch in Iraq. He smiled, reached back into his backpack, pulled out
his iPod and said, “I’m always looking for good inspiration, Ma’am”.
I
felt like God literally tapped me on the shoulder - big time. Although
I’d bought the name InspireMeToday.com in 2004, I hadn’t taken the time
to build the site yet, as I was working with my daughter on building
her career. Jesse and the 800 others like him inspired me to provide
them with quality inspiration. I returned home and set things into
motion. I hired a manager for Carly and founded InspireMeToday.com.
Q. What inspired you to create the Inspire Me Global Hug Tour?
A.
Knowing
from my trip to Iraq just how important touch is, I believe that a hug
can change someone's world. In this time of doom and gloom when it
seems the whole world is struggling, we choose to change that focus by
inspiring humanity to trust in what is good and what is possible. We
believe in a message of hope, change, responsibility, and commitment to
others.
As
our statement of that possibility, in September 2009, my husband
Darryl, a veteran pilot with NetJets, and I will take off in a small
prop plane and fly around the world, stopping at 50 international
cities delivering that message.
We will also give 2,000 hugs per
visit, literally wrapping the world with 100,000 hugs to show just how
small the world really is.
In order to also make a tangible
difference, we plan to personally deliver an estimated $1,000,000 to
important causes throughout the tour - specifically targeting poverty,
education, health care, children's and women's needs, clean water,
wildlife preservation and entrepreneurship.
Q. What's going to happen on the tour?
A.
Our
project is big and the possibilities are endless. We intend to develop
curriculum for schools to learn geography and global culture by
following our tour, connect people from one country to another, tie in
celebrity hugs for charity, and have classrooms adopt classrooms
across the world, just to name a few.
You
can go to the Global Hug Tour site, sponsor a hug for $10 and send it
to someone in one of the 50 cities on our path. When we land, we’ll not
only deliver your hug (along with 1999 other ones!), but we’ll also
deliver your full donation, to the non-profit or NGO to make a tangible
difference in the area.
For example:
- One hug in Chicago will feed 3 homeless people.
- Two hugs in Cambodia will educate a child for a year.
- One hundred hugs in Chennai, India will pay the cost of heart surgery to save the life of a child.
Q. How can spirited women worldwide help you on this adventure?
A.
Thank you for asking! Anything you can do to help us literally HUG THE
WORLD is greatly appreciated. This project will take all of us coming
together to make a difference. The best and easiest thing to do is to

and buy a hug. Then pass it on and ask at least 10 of your friends to
do the same thing. You can also help us to spread the word by sending
an email to your list talking about the Global Hug Tour, write a blog
post, or post our GHT badge on your site/blog. The more people we
reach, the more people we can help!

Q. What is your favorite inspirational quote?
A.
It's only when you have the courage to step off the ledge that you'll

Q. What advice do you have for other women to follow their dreams?
A. It all starts with your thoughts. I you think you can do anything, you're right.
Know that you have the power to be, do or create anything in your life. Anything! All you have to do is believe in yourself.
Find
your passion and follow your heart. If you love what you do and do what
you love, you'll never work another day in your life.
Surround yourself with mentors and people who believe in you.
Focus
on the dream not the fear, knowing that when the "what" and the "why"
of your dream are big enough, you'll never have to worry about the
"how".
Take the time to be quiet and listen to the voice of connection within and you'll know what to do to move forward.
Take inspired action, one baby step after another. Keep your passion alive and your goal in your mind and in your heart.
Make love the main part of your day of of your work. For with love, all things are possible.
Never give up! You'll only lose if you give up.
Take action today! Life is so short! Your dream life is waiting for you.
Q. Gail, why do you feel that you are a Spirited Woman?
A. All women (and men for that matter) are spirited. We all come
here filled with breath, life and the spirit within. Looking for spirit
inside or outside of us would be like a fish looking for water. It's
all around us- it IS us. We have an unlimited playground on which to
create this magical thing called LIFE. It is a blessing to be here each
and every day so go enjoy your time here. Live it fully, embrace the
moment and share your love with the world.
