Welcome to the world of SPIRITED WOMANHOOD.
I am so very excited. Things are hopping around here! As promised I'm expanding some things in Spirited Woman Land.
First step, I've made a leap into the mentoring/teacher role. I have knowledge, you have wisdom and I want to work with more of you individually and in a group, so that we can all live life more fully.
I'm launching my first international mentoring program - "Nancy's Inner Circle" - which is all about taking "creative out of the box marketing leaps to get more exposure for who you are and what you do." First circle starts in January. There's limited space for 10 special women.
Plus, on our publishing side, we're NOW EXPANDING our blogger team and are looking for new bloggers. Great opportunity for you, too!

SPIRITED WOMAN Q & A
MEGAHN & MARIE PERRY
A few months ago I was reading People Magazine and I was fascinated by an article about Megahn and Marie Perry, the step-daughter, step-mom, dynamic duo that recently launched (Feb. 2008) ExBoyfriendJewelry.com.
I LOVED the concept. I mean where else can you buy, sell, and trade
jewelry from your ex - and tell the world your story? Tres cool site.
When I read the motto, " You don't want it, he can't have it back," I
was intrigued.
So I contacted Megahn and Marie, never thinking they would respond to my e-mail. I thought the owners of any site that receives over 25,000 pages views DAILY, has had a ton of media write-ups - from The New York Times to being featured in the uber-popular Daily Candy - and has over 20,000 registered members, was going to be too busy to write back. But, I immediately heard from them and guess what - they are fun women!
Their story goes something like this: A couple of months ago Megahn was trying to figure out what to do with some ex jewelry. She had lovely necklaces and a wedding set that were not seeing themselves to the door. Not daunted, she went to a pawnshop in a GREAT part of town (by great, she means horrific) where a lovely gentleman wearing nothing but a wife beater and a holster (no gun, just holster) offered her $75 dollars for the whole lot. She politely declined and backed out of his establishment keeping her eyes on him the whole way.
Her next stop was the consignment shop down the street. As she says, "Now those people had a real business going. I leave them my jewelry with no guarantee that I'll ever get it back, they sell it (maybe they call me and tell me it's been sold, maybe not) and they take a percentage." Well, that sounded great, so she did it! P.S. Her diamond pendant is still on layaway!
So, I invite you to read Megahn and Marie's engaging interview (that was only the set-up!), and find out how the business got started, and why the site is becoming a form of therapy for many women (and men) and a place to shed some of your romantic past.
Q. How did you come up with the concept for ExBoyfriendJewelry.com?
A.
I went to dinner at my parent's house around the same time (of the
above jewelry saga) and I said to my step-mom, Marie (she and I run dis
biz together) "I want a safe, reliable place to sell my ex-boyfriend's
jewelry" and she says to me (The woman is smart! Career, kids, the
works - she's got it going on) "Let's start a website where people can
sell their old jewelry." DING, DING, DING! Brilliant just called,
they want their idea back!
So that's the origin of this site. We love it. We're using it. We want you to love it and use it, too. It's a fun, lighthearted way to deal with maybe not such a great time in your life. You live, you learn, you move on and you have a good laugh about it!
Q. How did you launch the site in February, 2008? And you're getting how many page views daily - ding, ding, ding?
A.
By
sending emails out to friends and families and word spread from there.
And our page views...well, it's kind of a big range depending on what
kind of publicity
we've had that week. Right now, we're working on between 25,000 and
35,000 page views per day, and there are times when we've had up to
500,000 page views in a day. We're realizing that old saying "what a
difference a day makes."
Q. What is the purpose of the site?
A.
On the surface, it's a site to buy and sell jewelry but what we've
heard over and over from the people using the site is that it's a
cathartic experience, a way to move on. Out with the old, in with the
new.
Q. What are your backgrounds? Have either of you ever run a business before? Or a web business?
A.
Check the media kit attached for the details of what we do (Megahn
Perry (aka the step-daughter) is a lovely actress and writer who works
consistently in both fields in Los Angeles, CA and Marie Perry (aka
the step-mother) – Marie is also a lovely woman who works as an agent
representing cinematographers and production designers in the
entertainment industry) but to the rest of your question - no, neither
of us have ever run our own business before and this was our very first
foray into a web business... and we're still figuring it out.
Q. Did you have any idea that the site would become so popular so quickly?
A.
Not at all, we were totally overwhelmed by the response. Pleased, but surprised.
Q. What do you think the women who become members get out of Ex-boyfriend Jewelry? And tell us about "The Scoop."
A.
Becoming
a member takes the experience from simply being a bystander to taking
control of one's own life and getting those baubles out the door. "The
Scoop" is the place where the users tell the story behind the jewelry.
This stuff has a story and it feels good to let people know where it
came from and why it's leaving you.
Q. Breaking up is hard to do, but the women seem to be having fun on Ex-Boyfriend Jewelry. Any thoughts about that.
A.
Well, that was the plan, for sure. Both Marie and I have pretty strong
comedy backgrounds and the idea of crying over spilled milk never
really appealed to us. But, having a REALLY good laugh over spilled
milk is a great idea! We hope that the site's "tongue-in-cheek" quality
provides a silly outlet for a not so great situation.
Q. You've gotten sooooo much press - why do you think that is?
A.
Oh,
we've definitely hit a nerve and also hit on a common theme. Everybody
dates, everybody breaks up and everybody wants to feel a little less
alone about it. It's also a new prospect. Before we started the site,
many people didn't have a clue about what to do with the jewelry left
over from relationships.
Q. How do you make money from the site? Or do you?
A. HA! If you've got any ideas, please let us know. No, we make
the little money we do make from advertising. Presently, it's a side
business since we both pursue other careers but it
certainly has us thinking in new and interesting directions.
Q.
What do you love about what you do? And what are your future goals for
the site? I mean didn't I read that you've been approached by TV
executives etc. to even turn the site into a sitcom?
A. Yes, we have been approached by TV executives, etc. But,
those things are shots in the dark and we both want to continue to
create a solid site where users can get the most out of their visits.
We really love the feeling of helping people out in a fun, silly way. I
think we'd both like to continue to do that, improving the site as much
as we can.
Q. Megahn, why do you feel that you are a Spirited Woman? Marie, why do you feel that you are a Spirited Woman?
A.
This
is Megahn. Marie and I have talked a little bit about this, so I think
I speak for the both of us when I say that the most spirited thing
about this whole experience was simply doing it. We talked about a good
idea and we made it a reality one step at a time. I think that is the
thing that we are both extremely proud of. Being bold has made us
"spirited women."
