Maria Sanchez
Maria
Sanchez rocks! One of the most popular radio hosts in the Ventura area
of Southern California, Maria is an afternoon drive time goddess. I
have had the privilege of being invited on "The Maria Sanchez Show" on 1520 KTVA several times to talk about Spirited Woman.
I've always been impressed by Maria's insightful questions, her interest in a broad array of subjects, her support of the Spirited Woman concept, and her seemingly endless curiosity about life. Plus, she's got a great sense of humor.
Maria has had her own radio show since 2006, and for many years
prior to that, she was producer for 103.5 FM KOST’s “Mark & Kim
Show,” the longest running morning broadcast team in Los Angeles radio
history. She also produced a television pilot for NBC and created the
audience participation, debate oriented “Cross Talk” for KCLU 88.3 FM,
a local NPR affliate. She can currently be seen on television hosting
numerous infomercials.
I am absolutely delighted that Maria is our featured interview of the month. It gives her a chance to be interviewed instead of interviewing others! I urge you to read her engaging interview.
Q. What are you passionate about in your life?
A. I am passionate about my family, my friends, my career, my
faith and my community as well as our world in general. I truly
believe that one person DOES make a difference and for that reason,
every purchase we make, every program we pay attention to, every
election that takes place, every action matters.
Q. You've been very successful in your career - both as a
producer and as a host of a radio show - what keeps you going? Is it
your drive, commitment, monetary needs, need to reach out - what?
A. I am ambitious and I want to make a difference in our
world. I want to help people be better informed so that they will be
empowered to make wiser choices. I believe knowledge is power and that
information helps all of us in our daily lives to be better people and
to make better choices.
Q.In addition to your work, you've raised four children. How have you kept it all in balance?
A.
I have started and stopped and postponed and delayed my career and my
professional aspirations to give priority to raising my four children.
I have been a single mother most of their lives, their father and I
divorced when they were 2, 4, 6 and 8 and he saw them 48 hours a month
for the first several years and then two weekends a month until very
recently. I don't know if I have kept it in "balance" but I do not
regret making them my priority and I wouldn't change the past, even if
I could.
Q. If you had to think of one basic message you've taught your children - what is it?
A.
Family comes first - ironically, or perhaps not. My mother always
mentioned how President Kennedy hired his brother to be Attorney
General and when he was asked what kind of experience he had, President
Kennedy said that he would get it on the job. Blood is thicker than
water.
Q. At this stage of your life - what are some of the things that you really care about? Helping others? Politics? What?
A.
That my children find what will make them happy and fulfilled. My
career, I am looking to broadcast to a much bigger audience and perhaps
become nationally syndicated. I am very proud of what we do on our
program. I think that we cover a lot of bases, a great deal of topics
and we do so in an accepting environment with a unique manner.
Q. I read that you have a wide circle of girlfriends - why are good girlfriends so important to you?
A.
My girlfriends are my family of choice. In particular, I have two BFF
(best friends forever) that have been there throughout my challenges
and my successes. NO matter what the need, we are there for one
another and we have been for nearly 16 years. Girlfriends can also be
a fabulous substitute for therapists and they are a lot less expensive!
Q. Maria, why do you feel that you are a Spirited Woman?
A.
I spent a good portion of my adult life being the "good girl, good
wife, good mother" and didn't cater to what Maria wanted, only what
others wanted. I used to say that if my family was happy, then I was
happy. That changed in 2007. For the first time in my adult life, I
began to consider MY needs. My adage became, "it's about me too." I
now listen to my wants and needs and try and factor them in given my
other commitments and constraints. I live life passionately with
purpose and with desire. I take care of me as well as taking good care
of others. I think I have achieved some sense of balance for the first
time in that regard.
