EDITOR'S MESSAGE
Welcome to the world of SPIRITED WOMANHOOD.
So sorry that April's newsletter is a few days late. That rarely
happens, but things are moving fast in SPIRITED WOMAN Land and I've
tried to manifest two of me, but to no avail.
The good news is that things are moving fast. Yesterday, we had a wonderful SPIRITED WOMAN CIRCLE conversation with top literary agent Lisa Hagan. The participants on the call loved it. Lisa is truly knowledgeable about "the in's and the out's" of the book industry. For those of you who missed this informative call it's available on MP3 and CD as are all of our other past conversations. Also, if you're thinking about joining the circle - think no more - it is just a great way to learn, be inspired and to network.
Now, to more good news. The response to our new product -
SPIRITED WOMAN "plantable stationary" has been overwhelming - since our
last newsletter we've sold over 100 boxes. The stationary is
embedded with wildflower seeds and it grows when you plant it. The

Our April Q&A this month is with Chellie Campbell - a friend, dynamo, money expert, author, and the woman I have personally anointed "financial guruess." A former musical comedy actress (so she's fun), Chellie is all about creating a wealthy spirit, financial freedom, and affirming positive thoughts to manifest abundance - which is a really good thing, don't you think? CHELLIE CAMPBELL
Sometimes you meet someone, as I did Chellie Campbell,
and you "just know" you're going to become friends. Call it kismet.
Call it destiny. Or as Chellie would say, "Nancy, dolphins, just
attract dolphins. They have no time for sharks, and tunas are just for
food." Yes, that's Chellie, the musical actress turned leading money
expert and bestselling author. She is a dynamo.
Known in LA for her popular Financial Stress Reduction Workshop (which I am now taking - by the way), she is a speaker, the author of The Wealthy Spirit: Daily Affirmations for Financial Stress Reduction and Zero to Zillionaire: 8 Foolproof Steps to Financial Peace of Mind. Most recently, she began The Dolphin Club, an on-line community for prosperity.
What I like about Chellie's "money talk" is that she brings it to a level that we all can understand. Especially women. And she truly does encompass the whole body, mind, spirit arena when she is speaking about finances. Q. You describe yourself as a healer of money disorders, spending bulimia, and income anorexia. What does that mean?
A.
I noticed people were having issues around money and they usually
tended towards, "I'm spending too much money beyond my means" and/or
"I'm not making enough money." I really developed that phrasing because
I was in a networking group with a lot of therapists, and a lot of
therapists were treating eating disorders - bulimia, anorexia, and
others - so my money expressions are a take-off on that - but people
instantly knew what I was talking about. They could relate - especially
women - because women are concerned about weight a lot.
Q. What is financial stress reduction and how do we achieve it?
A.
Part of it is knowledge is power. You have to become aware of how money
works and how to make it work for you. This just isn't the standard old
financial planning save for your retirement stuff. I mean how you
manage money on a day-to-day basis. Are you living below your means, so
there is always a little extra that you're sticking away so you start
feeling more substantial You have to shift your thinking around money,
you have to start using "The Secret," the law of attraction, the power
of positive thinking, daily affirmations. We're all doing affirmations
all day - and people go affirmations don't work, they're silly. And I
go you are doing affirmations all day, it's just that the positive
affirmations sound silly to you because most of the ones you are doing
are negative.
Q. In your book, The Wealthy Spirit,
you talk about daily affirmations for financial stress reduction, would
you tell us some of your favorite affirmations and why affirmations are
so important?
A. The average person has 60,000 thoughts
everyday. That's a lot of thinking. And they've done studies on this
with neurolinguistic programming and it's something like 95% of the
thoughts you're thinking everyday are the same thoughts you had
yesterday. There is not a lot of whole new thinking going on. We have
the same programmed reactions and most of it has been programmed from
when we were little and listened to our parents and listened to the
media. So all of these phrases especially around money have been
memorized and repeated. That is going to color your experience and what
you do. Your thinking makes you take one
action instead of another action. They estimate that 80% of what you're
thinking is negative - so you've got to start thinking some positive
things around money. You have to start believing in and focusing on
what really works. My favorite affirmations are, "People love to give
me money," and "I love to receive money and joy and I love to give
money and joy." Then it's all about flow and fun and lightheartedness.
We get so serious about money.
Q. What are some interesting statistics regarding women and their earning power?
A. I just heard someone speak, and this is an interesting
statistic. She said, if a woman makes her first negotiation for a
salary and isn't strong about it, and starts working at $25,000. But a
man who is eight times more likely to negotiate a starting salary,
negotiates for $30,000 and they make their 3% cost of living standard
over the next 30 years, the man will have an additional $567,000. How
about that? That's how much it cost a woman to not negotiate the
appropriate price for herself.
Q. How can we as women reach financial peace of mind?
A.
It begins in your mind. It begins by acknowledging all the good that
you have. Look around you and look at your closet. I bet no one reading
this is going, oh I have an empty closet, there's nothing in it, and I
don't have a roof over my head, or gee did I eat today. So, start
blessing all of that - thank god or whatever higher power you believe
in - for providing these wonderful things. If you just start living
from an appreciation of the abundance you already have - 200 years ago
they did not have electric light bulbs, they were doing it by
candlelight and if you don't want to think of electricity as a big
blessing in your life - turn off your tv and turn off the lights and
read by candlelight. I defy you to sit with that for a couple of days
and not start blessing electricity. Peace of mind comes from
appreciating abundance and every time you are able to sell your
products or services or be employed by somebody who values your skill
and talents, you've just got to go okay - I can make more abundance,
more money and stop going that it is going to end tomorrow. I don't
make fear based decisions anymore.
Q. Okay, I'll bite. You have The Dolphin Club, which is not for tuna
and sharks - what's the club and what's the difference in types?
A.
The club is an on-line membership club and I started it because I
wanted to connect with all the people that were writing me from all
over the world because of my books. I just can't one on one anymore. So
I created a community for like-minded people. A dolphin is a friendly
fish. They swim in schools, jump out of the water just for the fun of
it. They're happy, they communicate and are tough enough to ward off a
shark attack and protect other fish in the sea. Sharks are eating
machines - they've got big teeth and they're going to eat you. You
can't do business with sharks because they are looking to take
advantage and they'll just look at you and say "why are you upset it's
just business." You can't trust them, you have to watch your back all
the time. Tuna are food. There are more tuna in the world than any
other kind of fish - people that aren't taking action about their life,
whining "poor me, nothing ever works for me." They're not getting
educated, figuring out how it works, not being pro-active. You can't
blame others for walking on a doormat.
Q. What are your thoughts on saving for retirement?
A.
I hate the whole idea of retirement. Retire from what? Fun. If you like
your job you don't want to stop doing it. I never heard of a movie star
say, "Gee, I can't wait until my profit sharing plan is funded, then I
don't have to do these damn movies anymore." I just don't hear that.
Bill Gates is the richest guy in the world and he still goes into the
office everyday. You just have to look at it and laugh. The game of
life is to have work that fulfills you, that is fun for you to do. You
derive meaning and pleasure in life from helping other people and why
not make some money doing it to - it's a great thing.
Q. What are some ways to finance your future?
A. To
finance your future, you have to finance today. You have to budget,
write down how much money you spend and on what. That's going
to tell you what your priorities are or illuminate to you where your
leaks are. Some of the financial planners are fond of saying "don't
buy the latte if you have a Starbucks for $3.99 everyday you could
have saved $15,000." Well, yeah, but you'd be cranky. Sometimes you
just
have to have your pleasure - so you have to have spree money in your
budget and then you've got to be making some savings too because there
may be a time you are not well or you just want to take a break. I
think you should take mini-retirements along the way. Take a few months
off here and there.
Q. You've had a lot of fun being a poker player - what do you like about it? When did you start playing and why?
A.
I fell in love with the game when I was an actor and I'd been hired to
do a musical show at Walt Disney World in Florida. There were a bunch
of us from LA who didn't know anybody, so during rehearsals some of the
guys were playing poker. I'd always liked cards as a kid, I
played cards with my sisters and we used corn candy as chips. So I joined
in the game. Years later I spoke at a rotary club, and a woman came up
to me afterwards, and she had a women's poker game. She invited me to
join in. Also around that time I started going to the casinos around LA
and played with the big guys. It was fun. Now, I play in tournaments.
I've done pretty well in tournaments.
Q. You've had many obstacles in your life that you have faced
and overcome - tell us about some of them and how you overcame them.
A.
You're going to overcome obstacles unless they kill you. I haven't had
the life-threatening kind but I've had a lot of them. My bookkeeping
business was going very successfully and I bought my two partners out
of the business and nine months later the biggest client we had left.
It was 75% of my income. I borrowed a lot of money at a high rate of
interest and spent the next few years trying to pay it off. Then one of
my bookkeepers left to form her own company and a bunch of people went
with her, and now I couldn't make the minimum payments. I ended up
filing for bankruptcy. I lost my home to foreclosure. I drank too much
during that period so I got myself to alcoholics anonymous and gave up
drinking. I had a number of people die around that period - my mother
died of a heart attack, and my uncle, aunt, one of my best friends from
cancer - all in the same year. That's why I was drinking I just didn't
want to be awake. I finally decided I needed to take a hard look at
what I was doing. I hit bottom. I was teaching my own financial stress
reduction workshop at the time and I was real good at certain parts of
it, like how to budget and the numbers, and I got good at how to
overcome obstacles because I taught that part too and now I had to live
through it. What I wasn't good at was the positive thinking and
affirmations. I realized it's your daily thinking that will change you.
I was determined to make it work because I was afraid I was going to
have to go back to work as a secretary and I wasn't willing to do that.
Q. Chellie, why do you feel that you are a spirited woman?
A.
I have a good attitude about life. This is one of the things having
survived a bunch a problems does for you - after you survive it, when
another problem comes along, you go, oh well, I've been through worse
than this. You begin to believe in your own ability to cope and to
survive things and that gives you a depth of focusing on the good stuff
because the bad stuff happens to everybody. So you fix it and you move
on. It's not worth being all bitter and twisted and broken up about
stuff. Just let it go - something new will come by - it's all an
adventure.

E-mail a 60 word or less description of your listing (word count must include phone number and such) by the last day of each month (i.e. April 30 for May 1 issue) to: NancyMills@TheSpiritedWoman.com and put "LISTING BOARD" in the subject line. The same applies to photos and a JPEG (no larger than 200 pixels) is required.
All past SPIRITED WOMAN WORKSHOP attendees receive ONE FREE 60-word listing EACH MONTH. To ad a photo it costs $15 monthly. All additional listing are $25 per item per month, and with photo $40 per month.
For those of you who have NOT attended the SPIRITED WOMAN WORKSHOP it cost $25 per listing per month or $40 with photo. Please follow the above instructions.
