A pleasant surprise is coming to you soon. -- Fortune in fortune cookie
I've just lived through one heckuva couple of weeks, with enough wacky goings-on to try the patience of a proverbial saint.
But, as the cliche goes, if you hang in there long enough, your fortunes can change. And sure enough, they have changed, and for the better, as foretold in an optimistic fortune I got in a fortune cookie yesterday after a delicious lunch at my favorite Mandarin restaurant.
I always like to believe the best, and so when a good fortune is in side a cookie on my plate, I believe it will come true. Sometimes, however, the fortunes you get in cookies can be cautionary and philosophical. Once, mine read:
If you are afraid to shake the dice, you will never throw a six.
At other times, the fortune could easily be interpreted as a thinly disguised ad:
Enjoyed the meal? Buy one to go, too.
But usually the fortune tells of something good that's just barely peeking over the horizon. And that possibility raises the spirits of this Spirited Woman.
I've been told more than once that I'm "one tough cookie," even though sometimes I don't believe that. So I thought it would be amusing to title this post, "Fortune, Cookie?"
Have you ever received a right-on fortune in a fortune cookie?

I once received a fortune cookie with nothing inside. Complained to the server and was given a second cookie. Opened this one, and the slip read, "Good fortune will come to you, if you wait patiently." (Do they save those for just this situation?)
