My husband and I are just starting to plan our big adventure later in the year -- a trip that will eventually take us across the country from California to New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C. -- and eventually, if all goes well, to Italy for a while. Readers of my previous posts (Bella, Bella Italia) know how much I adore Italy!
This morning a song sung by the Brazilian star Carmen Miranda for a 1948 movie, A Date with Judy, popped into my mind. The song is called Cuanto Le Gusta, which means "when I please," and it's a showstopper.
Here are some lyrics from that lively song, which was written by G. Ruiz and R. Gilbert:
What'll we see there, Who will be there, What'll be the big surprise?
There may be caballeros with dark and flashing eyes.
Obviously, I'm starting to wonder what will happen on the upcoming trip!
So here is Carmen Miranda in this video singing and dancing to Cuanto Le Gusta with Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra in A Date with Judy. If you look closely, you can see a very young Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Powell at one of the nightclub tables.
It occurs to me that Carmen Miranda was certainly an original Spirited Woman!
