Well, here goes the 60-second countdown to the 77-foot drop of the famous ball at the top of the One Times Square Building in New York City, heralding the arrival of 2013!
The last few seconds to the countdown to the New Year "Ten...nine...eight...seven...six...five...four...three...two...one..." will be chanted in unison by the approximately one million people packed into Times Square. And then the megacrowd will explode with shouts of "HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
A bit of history: the ball drop started in 1907. This year's special guests, who along with the Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, will press the button activating the ball to drop, are the Radio City Rockettes. The event will be observed on TV by approximately one billion people around the globe.
The latest version of the ball has computerized LED lighting and triangle-shaped crystal panels, for those who are interested in such minutiae.
So, spirited women, let's live for all the tomorrows in the new year that's just about here! We're not going to "live on the brink" -- rather, we're going to go forward with curiosity and a sense of adventure and fun, knowing that we are truly "on the brink" of a Bright, Shiny New Year!
