Part of my New Year’s practice is to “SHED” the old to make room for the new. When cleaning out my clothes, purses and desk drawers, I discovered that I am a closet hoarder – of hand lotions!
Back in the day when you could carry liquids through airport security, I collected those fun little hotel hand lotions in my purse, briefcase, etc. Travelling for work, I wash my hands frequently and it doesn’t take long for them to chap and peel. Hence, the gazillions of miniature hand lotions.
These days I am forced to make a difficult choice when carrying on luggage since all cosmetics must fit in a quartz plastic bag – do I choose the toothpaste or wrinkle cream? Deodorant or eye lift? Talk about tough choices – do I want to feel good, smell good or look good?! In any event, the hand lotion rarely makes the cut.
So that’s probably how three dozen half-used miniature lotion bottles found their way into the bottom of old purses, pants pockets and desk drawers. All still with a little life in them but probably not valuable to anyone but me. And since I didn’t even know they were there, do I need to keep them? Or can they be released to make way for something new?
That’s a powerful question to ask yourself as you move through the cleaning and decluttering process. Instead of remembering when you bought/got it, or thinking it will come back into style, ask yourself – will I miss this (article) if I release/repurpose/replace it with a new opportunity?
What’s at the bottom of your purse waiting to make room for the new?
