New year, new decade - this means we must start thinking about GREEN GOALS for 2010. For me, 2009 was a great introduction to green living. I've done a ton of research, thanks to Spirited Woman and now I'm ready to turn it up a notch and do the work on a larger scale. I know some of you spirited ladies have already made big lifestyle changes but what does 2010 hold? Here are a list of simple goals you can set for 2010 if you were dragging your feet in 09!
1. Ditch paper towels! What a waste of paper - even the recycled ones. In most cases, we have an opportunity to grab a sponge or towel at the same time but go for the paper towel. Make it a point to grab the sponge next time instead!
2. No More Conventional Foods - Buy organic! It will improve your health and eliminate nasty toxins that are used as fertilizers. Nourish your body with healthy, nutritious food that is grown safely.
3. Rid of the Plastic Bags - This one is a no brainer and so easy! Reusable bags cost about $.99 at most. Buy 6 of them and you are set. Forget what it does for the environment, it is actually easier to carry the groceries. They are great to have on hand for transport of heavier items, etc. I used them for gifts on Christmas!
4. Plant a Tree - It can be in your backyard, in the community or at a friends. Give back to the environment and beautify your living space. It's an inexpensive way to help the planet and a fun thing to do with the kiddies.
5. Use Recycled Products - Check out your tupperware and all of your kitchen goods. Make sure they are BPA free.
6. Get a Water Thermos - No more PLASTIC water bottles in 2010! Go get a water thermos for you, your hubby and the kids. Also consider an at-home water system filter, Brita or Zero Water (www.zerowater.com) container.
7. Join a Yoga Class - Yoga is a great stress reliever and will help you achieve mental clarity. Yoga is said to aid with pain management, gastrointestinal disorders, back pain, boost your immune system and improve circulation. If you can't join a class, grab a book and do 15 minutes a day at home. You will stregthen your body inside and out.
8. Spread the Word - Try and crack into the green mind of one person a month - a family member, friend, colleague, etc. If we all got ONE person to follow any of these goals for 2010, it would make a huge impact.
Happy New Green Goals Everyone!
