On Christmas night and New Year's Day, I always hit the movies! It's still time to relax and what better way then a good lighthearted, spirited film and yummy popcorn. You shopped till you dropped - do you deserve a night to relax! I did some research to figure out what my holiday movie options were this year and wanted to share them with you. And if you see any of these and have a recommendation, please let me know!
It's Complicated: This is my first pick and what a great cast - Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. A comedy about love, divorce and everything else in life. Meryl Streep's character and Alec Baldwin's character ARE divorced but end up "getting complicated" at their son's graduation. Both have other loves in their life so it becomes a dramady about their daily dealings, family drama and one big love triangle! From the same director, Nancy Myers, who did The Holiday and Something's Gotta Give, two great films! Opens Christmas day.
Everybody's Fine: Great cast and I love Drew Barrymore! She stars alongside Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell in a comedy about a father (Denrio) who takes his kids on a road trip to reconnect with them after their mother's death. The trailers look really cute and the reviews are even better. I hear it really ties in well to the "American" family so what better time to see it than over Christmas!
Up in the Air: Six Golden Globe nominations and George Clooney - enough said! This looks like a film for all the ladies going ga-ga for Clooney who plays a traveling executive who's only mission in life is to get his one-millionth frequent flyer mile! Of course he ends up dabbling in love, meeting a woman who changes it all and sets his mind on new dreams by the film's end. The screenplay was adapted from Walter Kirn's novel Up In The Air. Also starring Jason Bateman (a favorite of mine) and Vera Farmiga and directed by Juno's Jason Riteman.
The Blind Side: I hear Sandra Bullock is award worthy here and I should have seen this already! Inspired by a true story, a homeless teen is given a second chance in life when he is taken in by a well to do family and eventually becomes a first pick of the NFL draft. The story comes from Michael Lewis' book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game which tells the story of real life NFL player Michael Oher. Starring Sandra Bullock, Kathy Bates and Tim McGraw.
