When I sat down to write this post I thought I would do it around fun. The holidays can be a very stressful time for people and this year it seems people are even more stressed out than usual. So I thought I would wander around the internet for a moment and see if I could find something that was a good illustration of doing something just for fun.
We have forgotten how to be playful and do things if only for a moment just because it's fun. No goal, no responsibility, no needing to accomplish something... I often tell my clients and my adult education students to be more playful when they are thinking about growing their business or changing their life. They are always surprised to find when they try what I suggest their inspiration flows and whole new opportunities and worlds of success open up to them.
In my search around the internet for inspiration on this fun focused blog post, I found an experiment to use fun to get people to take the stairs more often than the escalator. In Odenplan, Stockholm, the organizers behind The Fun Theory transformed a wide staircase into a piano keyboard. They wanted to see if the idea of playing with the notes as you walked up or down the stairs would encourage people to walk rather than ride. Giving them more exercise in there day.
The video of the experiment shows some of the results, 66% more people chose the stairs over the escalator than normal. I think giving them more exercise was a fine idea, but what really will make a difference in their lives is to put more fun in them. For all the people who walked up the piano keyboard stairs and all those who watched the video they have discovered how easy it is to do just a little something just for fun each day.
What are you inspired to do just for fun today? How can you change your behavior and shift your rhythm in life so that everyday you do something just for fun. And discover just like my clients and students that when you do - your inspiration flows and whole new worlds open up to you.
