When I thought about writing this post I first thought that I would like to do the normal top five gifts for this holiday season but then I figured it might be interesting to put a twist on that blog model. Therefore, I am actually going to share my wish list with you. You can of course use the list for gift ideas but hey, you just might decide to add one or two to your own list as well.
The holiday season is known as a time of giving so you will see that a few of the items on my wish list are about giving back. Yet, giving also means to give to yourself which by the way also means being a gracious receiver. Just remember as you make your own wish list that you too deserve a bit of TLC and a touch of luxury this holiday season.
1. A donation to Kiva in my name. I admire this organization so much that I just had to put it on my list. As an entrepreneur myself, I completely believe in the idea of helping others help themselves and that is exactly what Kiva was created to do. As their home page explains: Kiva connects people through lending to alleviate poverty. If you are not familiar with Kiva, take a look at their website. I believe you will be truly impressed.
2. A Logo Tee from Andira Rain Tees. I had the opportunity to interview Rain Tees founder Beth Doane this past spring (the interview can be found in my past post for Spirited Woman). She has created an extremely impressive company and it is her goal to create global change by educating consumers on critical issues using industries such as fashion, and collections such as Rain Tees.
3. A gorgeous bracelet from Ronda Smith Designs. Ronda too was a wonderful interview subject (post from Nov. 7th) and I was so impressed by her creations but even more importantly by her. Her unique pieces are earthy yet feminine very much like their creator. Ronda is an amazing woman who survived cancer and gained a beautiful outlook on life.
4. A hair straightener from GHD. This is a totally girlie gift and has no other redeeming factors than that it will help me whip my hair into shape. A good friend of mine recommended this hair straightener that also works as a curling tool. I tried it out and was amazed by how quickly my hair took on the soft waves but even more impressive was how long they lasted and this was in damp London weather! It was love at first try.
5. One more donation, this time to Medecins Sans Frontier, known stateside as Doctors Without Borders. After having my oldest son nearly die in my arms at two weeks of age, I am forever grateful for modern medicine and the incredible women and men who dedicate themselves to healing others. I feel so strongly about helping bring at least basic medical care to areas that are in dire need and Medecin Sans Frontier does exactly that. They have also recently added a boutique so if the idea of a gift that supports the cause is more appealing than a donation, you can go that route too.
How about you? What is on your holiday wish list? Share with all the spirited women what gifts would make you happiest this year. Self-indulgence in moderation is always a good thing!
