It happened quite simply through Facebook. A good friend of mine sent me a suggestion to be a fan of Ronda Smith Designs. I must admit that I get so many suggestions to become a fan of this, that or the other thing that I nearly didn't click on the link but then I remembered that the suggestion was coming from someone I admired and trusted so I clicked. I am so glad that I did.
It led me to discover the amazing woman Ronda Smith. I was immediately taken by her unique, one of a kind jewelry pieces but then, more importantly, I read about Ronda and I was more than impressed.
You see Ronda, who lives in Georgia, battled cancer and came back stronger than ever. She now realizes that every day is precious and lives for what brings her joy. She is truly beautiful inside and out. Ronda knows where her priorities lie and though she is enjoying great success with her business she puts her true priorities on family, friends and self.
I had the privilege to ask Ronda a few questions about her company, her life priorities and her brush with cancer and I found that Ronda is absolutely a Spirited Woman. Take a moment to get acquainted with Ronda and I am sure you will agree.
Dawn: What made you decide to set out on the entrepreneurial trail to create Ronda Smith Designs?
Ronda: It was an accident, really. I didn't intend on building a business. Just designed and made some jewelry for myself which led to making jewelry for friends. That led to some retail stores inquiring where they got their pieces. Boutiques calling me asking if I would sell t them!
What makes your jewelry unique and sets you apart from the crowd?
I use high quality gemstone beads and work very hard at finding unique vintage pieces to incorporate into my designs. My personal style is edgy, funky and eclectic which comes through in my designs. Many of my pieces are one of a kind and women really appreciate that!
Is there a message that you would like to convey to women through your designs?
I want women to feel fashion forward and confident knowing that there is no "wrong" way to wear my pieces. Mix it up and be creative!
Do you have a vision for Ronda Smith Designs? Where do you see your company and more importantly you, in five years down the road?
To be perfectly honest, I don't have a plan for the future. It's not really in my hands anyway. I have been so blessed in my life and never really operated with a "plan". In five years, I know I will still have a loving family and if my creativity is still flowing and this business is still bringing me joy, I will continue on this path and see where it takes me.
Who has been your inspiration in life? Do you have any female entrepreneur role models within your family or close circle of friends?
I have quite a few close friends that inspire me daily. To be a better mom; better wife; a better friend. I've always maintained that my dad has been my greatest role model in life. The way he goes about his life is just so simple and sweet. As far as a female entrepreneur, certainly my dear friend Chris Glavine has inspired me in that arena. She is actually "responsible" for inspiring me to make my jewelry in the first place and has encourage and guided me ever since.
Have you had any roadblocks on the way to your design success? How did you overcome them?
I have not had any major setbacks, luckily. There are days when you wonder if running a business is worth it. It can be extremely overwhelming and consuming at times. I have an incredibly supportive husband who is always there pointing out the silver lining and giving me perspective. That's all you really need sometimes.
How do you feel that your battle with cancer changed you?
I have never regretted the fact that I had cancer. It was a great eye opener and a tremendous opportunity to help others in the same situation. It strengthened my faith and made me fearless.
Do you believe that the strength you gained in overcoming this deadly disease gave you the courage to pursue your passions?
Certainly. There is definitely a part of you that just is scared of anything. You tend to feel like you have been given a second chance, so I am willingly to try my hand at just about anything!
Why do you think you are a Spirited Woman?
Simple. I love life. I want to celebrate every milestone in my life. I strive to appreciate all that God has given us and want to live with no regrets!
