I just returned from Ali Brown's amazing three-day event: Shine. There was so much to learn and absorb in those jam packed 72 hours that I could probably write at least a dozen blogs with stories, lessons and wisdom that I received. Perhaps I will share more of what I learned in future blogs but the one golden nugget I would like to share with you today blends nicely with the fact that I am the fashion and style blogger at Spirited Woman. Shine nugget number 1: Play (and look) the part and you will soon become exactly what you dream of becoming.
If you already know Ali Brown, you have surely noticed that she is a beautiful and stylish woman but in the last year Ali has ramped her look (and her earnings) up a notch. She is not just a stylish business woman but she is now a Glam Diva who has fun with her success. Each day of the Shine event the attendees could not wait to see what Ali would be wearing. She did not disappoint and to top it off, she even did a costume change mid-day so we got to admire her finesse not once but twice per day.
So what does this have to do with success? An incredible amount actually. You see, Ali's mentor, billionaire business woman Anne McKevitt gave a phenomenal speech on creating the new Ali brand and took us on a ten year trip through Ali's brand and how it has evolved to its current multi-millions status. Both Anne and Ali admitted that it has been a very conscious effort to make this incredible success goal a reality and image played a very big part in making that happen.
It was such a simple, obvious message but one that we overlook far too often: If you want to achieve a certain dream or live your life in a certain way, act and look the part. Not only is this a tactic to use in your dealings with other people but it is especially important in how you deal with yourself. Just as Ali"s spectacular wardrobe conveyed to all the Shine participants that she was wealthy, stylish and extremely pulled together it was also subconsciously conveying the message to herself that she is outrageously successful and deserving of all the good things coming her way.
In fact, one of the speakers at Shine, the outspoken, charming and very rich Barbara Corcoran told the audience that with her first $350 commission she made in real estate she went out and bought a gorgeous coat for the entire check amount at Bergdorf Goodman. She knew it made her look smashing and successful and she also knew that she was making an investment in herself that would pay off in spades, and billions of dollars later you can see she was right.
So it may seem superficial to act a certain way or to dress a certain part but let's face it, appearance is extremely important in our modern day society. Even more important though is what you are saying to yourself: I'm worth it and I can be exactly who I want to be. Therefore begin today to think about who you want to be in 2010, 5 years from now and even 10 years from now. Figure out what that future you will do, how she will act and yes, even what she will wear and then begin adding that into your life today!
