We are all creative, we are all inspired... but many of us let our thinking of not being an expert, not being perfect yet... hold us back from letting our brilliance shine. Dan Phillips has no formal training as a builder or as an architect, or even as an environmental engineer. Yet he steps into his creativity and inspiration everyday and lets his brilliance shine.
He didn't let the fact that he wasn't an expert hold him back from transforming his inspiration into homes for single mothers or artists, and works of art in their own right. For him its a way to live life that he enjoys and a way to run his business and enjoy what he creates with his success. Dan takes "trash" and turns it into a home of reclaimed materials. In the past five years he's kept three hundred tons of trash from going into the landfill.
"If I can prove you can make a reasonable living building for the poor, using recycled materials and unskilled labor and still come out, then it's in the marketplace - then we've really done something." You can see some of the homes Dan has built and the creative ways he uses what someone else would call trash and turn it into a home with whimsy and style.
What areas in your life are you still using the excuse that you are not yet an expert, or that you haven't perfected your ideas or your technique?... So you can't do what you want to do. Don't let not being an expert block your brilliance and be what holds you back anymore.
Today, how will you let a ray of your brilliance shine?
