I don’t know about you but I must have at least 100 t-shirts. And yes, I know how completely ridiculous and “un-green” that sounds—even to me. But the truth is, over the years I’ve turned into a t-oholic. In the winter I wear a white tank under almost everything and in the summer I’m in and out of some kind of t-shirt all day. I make no excuses, t-shirts are an easy and comfortable everyday option and I am guilty as charged for over doing it.
To make it worse, I recently learned that my “I can’t live without you” conventional cotton-based tee requires a whopping one-third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers and around 700 gallons of water to make! Not only that, my poor skin has been absorbing all of those chemicals year after year after year. That is way toxic!
So as of today, my spirited green journey continues into the world of organic t-shirts till death do me part! An organic cotton t-shirt requires zero toxic ingredients and is usually rain-fed as opposed to irrigated—using up less water. The difference is dramatic (and so are the prices) but opting for organic cotton will create a healthier, non-toxic and natural resource rich world—and a healthier me and you.
My favorite earth-friendly line of cotton comes from Alternative Apparel. They have a full selection of men's, women's and children's t-shirts and have recently added cotton sweats, fleece and sweaters into their collection. Brace yourself though—if you are used to the $12 GAP t-shirt, you might sweat over their $24 priced tee. But I promise you -- at double the price, you will not only feel more comfortable but much healthier. I do!
If you can suggest any other great organic cotton lines, please share!

We have excellent eco-friendly clothing vendors listed on The ACME Design Resource Network under our green/eco-friendly drop down category. Our green vendors are noted with a green leaf icon to help them stand out. All Natural Clothing is one of my favorites. To do a little online shopping go to www.TheACME.com
