Looking back on half a century of friendships, something recently became crystal-clear - a TRUE friend will support you no matter what.
At different critical junctures in my journey...despite the challenges my friends faced at the same time in their own lives, many of them were really there for me. Here's what some of them did:
1) My fellow single woman friend who was excited for me when I started dating a great new guy, despite the fact she'd just been dumped by a guy she had hoped was "the one."2) The married friend who helped me through my first pregnancy and shared the joy when my baby was born, even though she'd been trying unsuccessfully to conceive for two years.
3) A fellow entrepreneur friend who continues to give me great marketing ideas though my business competes with hers.
4) My divorced friend who listens to my occasional complaints about my husband despite years of unsuccessfully seeking a marriage-minded guy for herself.
5) A much-younger married friend who returned my phone call seeking solace late one night even though she'd been sleep-deprived for weeks getting up to nurse her new baby
Now, that's loyalty! That's caring. That's love. And it's a true honor to have these empathetic, dedicated, spirited women in my life.
How about you? Do you have female friends like that...women who care so much about you that they put aside their feelings and needs and focus instead on being happy for you when you're happy and empathizing with you when you're sad, no matter what else they're grappling with in their own lives? If so, this is the month to make them feel especially appreciated. Here's a nice Thanksgiving e-card you might want to send to all of them with your personal note of thanks.

Great article! I am truly grateful for my closest girlfriends. They are there for me through thick and thin. I hate to think who or where I'd be without them. I love you girls!
