I was reminded this week, how much I love traveling around America. During a conversation with a co-worker who is originally from England, he was telling me how much his family loves exploring the US. They find the beauty and originality in each state and cherish the new experiences that the United States brings to them. He was telling me about his upcoming trip to Wyoming and Colorado.
Then last night, I found myself watching one of my new favorite movies, The Proposal, which takes place in Alaska, a place I love, and I started remembering some of my favorite trips around this great country. Here are a just a few highlights of my favorite spots. Maybe some will inspire you to start exploring America.
Lake Powell, Arizona – If you are looking for warm weather, crystal clear blue waters, Southwestern architecture, and quality time with friends or family – Lake Powell is the ideal place to go. I went on a Houseboat tour with a friend’s family in high school and spent 10 wonderful days on the lake, swimming, tubing, cooking out and sleeping under the stars. It was amazing and I still remember it as one of my favorite trips! Whether you want to go with girlfriends, family or couples, this is a true getaway to experience part of Americana, but without the tours and people, just make sure someone can drive a boat.
Alaska – When I was in high school, my mother took me on a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska. I had never even been to Alaska let alone Fairbanks. We actually stopped in Anchorage on our way to Fairbanks, and honestly every part of the way was magical. From flying over miles and miles of snow covered mountains to to sleeping with the shades closed because the sun is out all night - I was entranced. Alaska was by far one of my most favorite places to visit for the awe and beauty and the simplicity of life. Whether you take a cruise to see the majestic views of Alaska, go dog sledding, exploring or shopping, Alaska offers any spirited woman a chance to be surprised and wowed.
Vermont – I was lucky enough in my career to work on snowboarding sponsorships which took me all over the country to mountain resorts. Vermont was one of the places I traveled to and one of the places I fell in love with. I spent some time in Burlington where I went wakeboarding on Lake Champlain, ate some great food and wandered the beautiful town. I got to ski in Stratton and enjoy the après ski. I just scratched the surface of exploring this beautiful state and it left me craving for more. So, whether you want to remain active via winter or summer sports, shop, eat, see beautiful scenery, Vermont has it all! Especially with winter around the corner, this is a great place to visit to rejuvenate your spirit!
These are just a few of my favorite locations in the US – what are the vacations you took in America that left you with cherished memories?
