Can tapping your fingers on certain parts of your body help heal you emotionally? Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), is a form of alternative psychotherapy. It is based on the theory that negative emotions are caused by disturbances in your body's energy system and that tapping on these acupuncture points (called meridians) while focusing on a specific traumatic memory balances the system, thereby neutralizing the negative emotion.
The basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine, meridians are invisible lines through the body that carry energy or Chi to every organ and system. EFT practitioners teach you how to tap your fingertips along these meridians while talking about an emotional upset, a fear or anything that you feel needs healing in your life.
As an always curious Spirited Woman, I recently tried an EFT session with a Certified Energy Coach and found it fascinating. I was amazed at how my coach, Kim Ruch-Alegant, lead me on a process of memories and feelings to help with my fear of public speaking. I had never before connected a particular event that happened earlier in my life when I was in front of a group, to my current my current anxiety with public speaking. As Kim said, “You never know where you’re going to go. I have seen a person's entire physical demeanor change as a result of talking through their problems while tapping and releasing the "stuck" negative energy, if you will.”
