I recently worked with a Life Coach. After attending a seminar in my home town near Philadelphia given by Mark Van der Gaag, a national certified Life Coach and Speaker, I was so inspired that I signed up for his coaching program. Mark was trained by best-selling author Debbie Ford and worked closely with renowned spiritual teacher Marianne Williamson. I have read every one of both of these woman's books and followed them for years - so it is no wonder I was drawn to this event.
At the seminar, Mark posed a question to the audience, "What did you come here to get tonight?" We all answered differently; one woman said to work through some emotional pain, another man said to get help finding love, and I said to gain knowledge about myself. Mark wrote all of our answers on a board and then said, "Consider the possibility that the thing you came here to get is actually what you came to give as well." He even went so far as to say that is it your purpose or what you are meant to do for other people in the world.
WOW. I was floored. I have done a lot of soul searching and exploring to find out what I am meant to do in the world. Every meditation, visualization and writing exercise has always brought me to the same answer about what my purpose is - to help others know themselves, heal themselves and love themselves. WOW again. How did he know this?
Needless to say, after that seminar I was intrigued enough to make the commitment for weekly coaching sessions, via the telephone, with set goals in the areas of relationships and career. It was one of the most challenging and fun experiences I have ever had with regards to the internal work of looking within. Challenging because, I was held accountable and taken way out of my comfort zone every week. Fun because, almost immediately, I saw miracles happen in the areas of my life I wanted to improve. I believe it is why I was opened up to the opportunity of becoming a Spirited Woman Blogger, something I am not only very proud of, but enjoy immensely. I also cleared many blocks on mental, spiritual and even physical levels during my coaching.
The most important thing I took away from the experience was that, for the first time in my life, I realized that spiritual growth and working on yourself can be done joyfully. You don't always have to go through excruciating pain to grow and learn lessons...you can actually have some fun with it.
I don't know about you, but I choose joy over excruciating pain any day!

The growth will be done automatically if you open yourself to opportunities.. Good luck for that!
