I was at my sister in law’s house watching her make a giant pot of chili for dinner when I heard the news about Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson dying on the same day. I know this may sound strange and I mean no disrespect when I say this, but I felt a tinge of sadness over the fact that they had to die on the same day.
Yes, Michael Jackson was the king of pop and an undeniable influence in our world and culture. But there was something about Farrah’s story that tugged on my heartstrings from the beginning. I considered her a brave hero for coming out in such a public way with her battle over a cancer that is considered by many to be taboo.
I really wish that God gave them separate death days so that the world might not be so overwhelmed with grief all at once and we could properly give each of these public figures remembrance. But he didn’t, so in between everyone honoring Michael Jackson and re-listening to dozens of his songs I’d like to tell you a little bit about why I feel Farrah died in such a heroic way.
Farrah was an Aquarian Sun with both communication planet Mercury and Mars, the planet of sex and energy, also linked closely to her Sun sign. The Sun-Mars contact surely intensified her sexual energy and is one of the reasons why she was a sex symbol back in the 1970’s. She also happened to be a phenomenal actress as indicated by the beautiful trines Neptune, the planet that rules film and acting, made to her Sun, Mercury and Mars. Neptune allowed her to feel the roles she played in a truly inspirational way.
But let’s get back to the taboo and Farrah’s amazing ability to face it. Perhaps you’re not aware that the leading cause of cervical and anal cancer is a sexually transmitted infection called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
It’s actually the most common STD in the US and it’s estimated that over 50% of women and men will have contracted one or more strain of HPV in their lifetime. Yes ladies, you read that statistic correctly. Farrah most likely contracted a high risk strain of HPV and it’s likely that it went undetected until it manifested as anal cancer. In most cases however, HPV is completely treatable although not curable.
So ladies please – always go for your annual Pap Smear – it’s the only way to know if you have contracted HPV! And if you have a daughter, please consider having her vaccinated for this. In 2006 a vaccine was approved to protect against the 4 most common types of strains that lead to genital warts or cervical cancer.
There is currently NO test available in men to know if they have HPV and this partly why it’s becoming such a widespread infection. The health risks for men are virtually nonexistent as compared to the staggering affect on women. HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer and although anal cancer is relatively rare, it is also usually caused by HPV.
I want to honor this incredible Aquarian actress for her ability to go against the grain and stare down this taboo subject so that she might educate and empower other women. So that she might help save lives.
Farrah has Jupiter in Scorpio. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and Scorpio is all about sex, death and regeneration. Scorpio loves to explore anything hidden or taboo. Farrah’s brave documentary on the ugly side of dealing with her illness surely struck a chord with anyone who watched it.
Farrah Fawcett left us a legacy in many ways. She was a talented actress who made us feel something. But she was also a progressive leader and a spirited woman who wanted the world to know that you don’t need to be ashamed of yourself or your sexuality. But you DO need to be educated.
