Spirited women come in all shapes, sizes and values.
I had the wonderful, good fortune to attend an invitation only conference that Dan Kennedy spoke at this past Friday. If you are unfamiliar with Dan Kennedy he is considered to be one of the top experts in sales and business building and is both a sought after speaker and consultant. The man is a multi-millionaire and truly walks his talk.
Now why in the world would I be writing about Dan Kennedy in a Spirited Woman's style and beauty post? Well, Dan reminded me of a very interesting lesson in sales but also in life: we each have different values and perceive the importance of a thing from our own reference points. To stress this point he gave a specific example of how he sees no value in spending $147 for a denim shirt. If he needs one, he will simply pop into Wal-mart and pay about $20 for his purchase because he just does not see enough of a difference, in his personal value system, to justify the price difference.
Here is the kicker though, Dan then went on to explain that his value system does put a very high importance on comfortable travel with no hang-ups or hassles though. Therefore, he only likes to travel in his private jet and wouldn't even consider ever traveling in economy class. Though not many people have the luxury of making this kind of travel choice, Dan's value system makes it a necessity in his book.
The ironic part of this story is that one of Dan's most successful proteges, Alexandria Brown, puts a very high value on her wardrobe. I have heard her speak on a number of occasions about how she is on the VIP list of a handful of chic, California boutiques and puts a real importance on top quality clothing. Sure Dan and Ali's differences could be put down to male and female behavior but it also comes down to the idea of values and how each of us acquires our own set.
What are your values? Do you ever think about what is meaningful to you when it comes to your personal style? Perhaps you are like Dan and a stylish Wal-mart shirt is just as good as one from Ralph Lauren in your book. Or are you more like Ali, someone who focuses more on quality than quantity and seeks out unique boutique offerings? Or perhaps you fall somewhere in between and simply look for what fits right and makes you look your best.
There is no right answer here and that is what makes fashion and style so interesting. What a boring world it would be if we all walked around with the same look, the same clothes and even the same values. Find your own Spirited Style and wear it well after all, there is only one you and you are fantastically unique!!!
