Kit Kittredge - More Than a Children's Movie
I have to admit, having a daughter allows me the guilty pleasure of seeing kids' movies without looking too strange, but "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" is not just for girls, it's for women too.
Though Kit is the main character in the movie, there are so many great female characters it is a movie every woman should see. It takes place in Cincinnati during the Great Depression. While the men went to Chicago to find work and send money back to their families, it was the women who had to do the real hard work. During the Depression, women took in boarders (which included the housekeeping, cooking and worrying about how to keep the house from falling into foreclosure), grew vegetables and raised chickens to feed everyone and provide emotional comfort by hiding all of their fears from their children.
Julia Ormond does a great job as Kit Kittredge's mother. She has a strong, spirited air about her and she is so beautiful even playing a worn-out wife and mother. Abigail Breslin (a junior spirited woman) does a fantastic job as a young girl, Kit Kittredge, with a dream - to be a reporter.
So, grab your daughters, nieces, friend's daughter or just go by yourself... consider it a history lesson on how spirited women dealt with The Depression. It made me appreciate being born in the 60's. For movie times or more information just checkout the http://www.kitkittredge.com/
